PROJECT DURATION

PRODUCT OVERVIEW
Spotify's Artist Catalogue Manager allows artists to manage their own albums, upload their own artwork, sell merchandise, and add lyrics to music all on their own terms.
PROBLEM
Design a Mac based editor and artist management system that allows artists to manage their presence on Spotify.
I was not able to view the actual Artist Catalogue Manager Platform since I am not an artist, so I wasn’t able to determine the real problems of the current web app. However, the problem presented in this case study aims to create and update the Spotify Artist Catalogue Manager and based on the given information I focused on creating an engaging interface and using visual artist charts and statistics.

SOLUTION
A central hub and dashboard for all artist management needs.
I designed a system that allows artists to manage their music and brand on Spotify. I included easy access to common functions needed on a music streaming platform while adding features that would be useful to an artist and their team.
RESEARCH
Focus on artist promotion and finding their fanbase.
I conducted research on the current Spotify Artist's platform and what artists and their team may want to see or access. I found that artists and their teams often use Spotify as a platform to find their target market and their fans in order to promote their new music .
I found that Spotify allows for an array of options that artists can use to creatively reach and engage with fans. The platform makes it possible for artists, big or small, to be discovered due to Spotify's reach of over 380 million users in 184 markets. The curated playlists within the platform allow for constant discovery of music which is why the artists platform would play a big role in their career.
BRAINSTORM & DESIGN
Paper Wireframes
The initial designs focused on maintaining the iOS layout of the app whilst adding the different features that were crucial to artist management as well as some "nice-to-haves" like the streaming counter.

SETBACKS
Lack of Spotify Artist desktop app access.
Doing a redesign of Spotify's Artist platform was a little difficult because I don't know what the current platform looks like. My design was based off the Spotify platform that I'm able to view as a subscriber and photos from internet research.

CONCLUSION & WHAT I LEARNED
1
Following the design of an existing product
This is the first project I did that involved an already existing company. I learned more about improving a product that already exists rather than creating something completely from scratch. I found that doing proper research on the industry and being familiar with the company is very beneficial in designing improvements to a product they already have.
2
Usability Studies
Conduct usability studies with an artist and members of their team to see if the design choices I made are actually useful. I would also measure metrics like time to complete tasks like editing artist profile or adding to discography, usability, and overall visual appearance.
3
Link to Third Party Website
I would make my prototypes even more interactive by linking the ticketing sites or artist merchandise shops to the corresponding pages and buttons. I'd also try to find a way where the platform could connect to a database that would manage an artist's discography.
